Celebrating NAIDOC Week at Macarthur Square
Honouring First Nations Culture
This NAIDOC Week, My DSS was proud to join the celebrations at Macarthur Square, where Uncle Dave and Aunty Amanda, along with members of their mob, delivered a heartfelt and moving Welcome to Country.
The ceremony included a traditional smoking (cleansing) ritual and a powerful cultural dance, creating a truly spiritual and meaningful experience for all attendees. It was a proud moment, reflecting the strength, resilience, and richness of First Nations cultures.
The Role of Uncle Dave
Our Aboriginal Community Relationships Manager, Uncle Dave, continues to play a vital role in building and maintaining cultural connections between My DSS and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. His leadership, along with Aunty Amanda’s cultural guidance, ensures that our partnerships remain inclusive, respectful, and supportive.
Why Events Like These Matter
Events like these remind us of the importance of:
-
Cultural identity – celebrating the history and traditions that shape us.
-
Community connection – fostering stronger relationships and shared understanding.
-
Shared learning – creating opportunities for cultural education and respect.
Our Commitment
At My DSS, we are committed to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, recognising and celebrating their enduring contributions to our shared story.
As NAIDOC Week’s theme powerfully states — “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud” — we stand together in support and solidarity, not just this week, but every day.
